Historic Hotel Saugatuck boutique hotel renovation in Saugatuck Michigan

Hotel Saugatuck Historic Restoration

Historic restoration of the 1865 Hotel Saugatuck, transforming a Michigan Historic Landmark into a luxury boutique hotel and bed & breakfast.

Originally built in 1865, the building now known as Hotel Saugatuck is the only original mill structure remaining from the region’s historic lumbering era. Recognized as a Michigan Historic Landmark, the property has long played an important role in the Saugatuck community, serving in several capacities over the decades. After years of vacancy and disrepair, the historic structure was purchased with the vision of restoring it as Saugatuck’s premier boutique hotel and luxury bed and breakfast.

Cella partnered on the project to bring specialized expertise in historic preservation and renovation. The design and engineering team carefully recycled and repurposed elements of the original structure while introducing modern systems and energy-efficient upgrades.

Today, the restored property offers guests a distinctive retreat that blends historic character with contemporary comfort, preserving an important piece of Saugatuck’s architectural history while creating a luxurious destination for visitors.
