Metro Health Hospital green roof installation in Wyoming Michigan

Metro Health Hospital Green Roof

Installation of a 48,800-square-foot green roof at Metro Health Hospital, one of the largest in Michigan, designed to improve environmental performance while creating a restorative view for patient rooms.

Cella provided engineering and design services for the installation of a 48,800-square-foot green roof at Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming, Michigan. Covering more than one acre, the project is one of the largest green roof installations in the state.

The living roof features five species of sedum and one species of allium, creating a vibrant landscape visible from 178 patient rooms overlooking the roof. By replacing a traditional rooftop with a natural environment, the design provides patients and staff with a calming visual connection to nature.

In addition to its aesthetic benefits, the green roof delivers important environmental advantages, including improved insulation, reduced stormwater runoff, lower rooftop temperatures, and improved air quality, supporting both patient well-being and long-term building performance.
